    Need more space

So my NAS is running out of space and the new Western Digital RE WD4000FYYZ 4TB seems to be a good choice for an upgrade. I found some at Provantage but I have only done business with Newegg so far. Is Provantage a reliable E-Retailer? Thanks.
  3. Hey guys what do think about these hard drives? I've been looking around for reviews but I can't find any. I'm trying to replace 4 2TB drives in a raid 5 config. Thanks.
  4. I agree, great move. This could have hurt their already fragile reputation.
  5. I would recommend getting OCZ's Vertex. It may be expensive but it's way cheaper that what Intel is offering with the same performance. I got two from newegg.com and the performance is unbelievable!! If you need proof of their performance browse OCZ SDD forums. Good luck.

    Dual-Core Processors

What is you conclusion based on? I am yet to see any dual core AMD processor reviews.
  7. Can anyone recommend a serial controller card? I've had it with ATA's limitations. I’m going to connect 4 DVD writers, so I don't need raid. Thanks.

    Buying dual Xeons

I've built 2 Xeon based systems in the last two years, 3ghz and a 3.2ghz with 1M L3 cache. I ordered all the processors from newegg.com and I have not encountered any problems whatsoever.
  9. Update... I received an e-mail from Seagate today with firmware download and install instructions. Thanks for your help.
  10. Does anyone have the latest firmware for the ST336752LW? I e-mailed Seagate but I'm not putting a lot of faith in getting an answer from them. Thanks.
  11. Well it was worth a shot. I hope you find the cause of the problem soon.
  12. I used to have it connected as an ATA drive and everything worked fine so I know it's not the media or the drive. At this point the only thing it could be is the firewire controller chip and/or the firewire cable and I'm leaning towards the firewire controller. I've done some research and from what I can tell (no surprise here) is that the VIA chip has some issues/isn't the best performing chip. I'm going to try the Adaptec FireConnect 4300 (TI chip) with a top quality cable and see if that solves my problem. I'll report back. I agree with DogEared. Is sounds like the media. I have the same drive and I have noticed that burn times will vary from disc to disc. I currently use 4x Memorex (DVD+r's) and usally it will write at 8x. Every once in a while it will only write at 4x, and these are discs from the same 50 pack. I would also recommend you upgrade to the latest firmware. You can get it here. Good luck.
