  1. hi guys, I would like to check with those who are using Adaptec 3405 or 3805 SAS Raid controllers. I understand that both cards uses passive cooling and would like to know whether it becomes very hot during operation? I currently have an LSI MegaRaid 8344ELP which is passively cooled and it makes my whole system freaking hot. So, if the Adaptec is cooler, I would change to Adaptec. Pls give your comments. Thank you.
  2. hey guys, anyone using the LSI MegaRaid 8344ELP? I'm using 1 right now and the card gets really hot and its causing the whole PCI backplate area to be very hot. I know its kinda normal for LSI cards, anyone in the same situation but did something to cool it? thanks in advance for your inputs
  3. Areca 1680!!! nice SAS Raid card you have there?? did u upgrade to 2gb of cache?? yup.. 2cpu always have ppl providing compatibility lists of mobo for certain model of storage controllers.
  4. If you want quick response, 15k SCSIs will give u the edge.
  5. thanks for your input. I managed to land my hand on an Asus P5B-VM DO which uses the ICH8DO chipset. It meets almost all my needs. I just need to get a SPDIF out. It has a PCIe-x4 slot and 6 x SATAII ports which is what i need. SAS controller wise, i managed to land my hand on a LSI 8344ELP card.
  6. SR does not have much reviews on storage controllers. For SAS, Toms Hardware has quite some reviews on SAS and Unified Serial storage controllers. It also has a performance database for enterprise hdds.
  7. Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with Promise FastTrack TX 2650 or TX4650. I've been looking around for a mATX mobo with PCIe-x4 slot so that I can use SAS controllers which usually comes in PCIe-x4. However, the search is futile. And looking through the web, I bumped into these 2 controllers which uses the PCIe-x1 interface. My main use is using them in Raid 0. Currently, I have 2 x WD360GD Raptors that I would like to use them on. But I will be upgrading to 4 x Savvio 10k.2 73GB if I get this controller. Therefore, I would need someone who has experience with this controller to give me some comments on either one of this controller. Thank you.
  8. Cos SAS hdd has to use a SAS controller... anyway, the cache will only be useful if the user runs Raid.
  9. hey guys, I've got a Dell Perc 4e but I'm running into some problems now. By the way, I'm not running a Dell server, but I'm using a an Intel C2D E6300 with an Asus P5WDG2 WS Pro motherboard. I just got a 256mb ECC ram for my Dell Perc 4e. But I can't seem to get it to work. I can go into the SCSI controller's BIOS and configure the array, but sometimes I can go pass the Perc 4e's POST, sometimes I can't. So, I went on to download the latest BIOS from Dell's website. I tried to flash the firmware but it detects no image to update. The current firmware is H430 Build Feb 25, 2005. Please advice. Thank you.
  10. I think with the 4 disks with official warranty from Seagate, you can request for the latest firmware from Seagate and flash it with SeaTools. And I guess you might be able to flash the other 6 OEM hdds with the latest firmware too.
  11. hey guys, I would like to check with you how Adaptec's warranty works? I know that the warranty goes with the TSID that each component comes with. But when the does warranty starts? From the moment you register it on their website? Also, is the warranty transferable? ie, if i sell it to another person, he registers it on the Adaptec website, the warranty will start from the day he registered or from the day the card was first registered? Sorry, i'm asking a lot of questions here. thanks
