    Here are SMART data:

    HDD and slow sectors

Look at the actual data - graph doesn't show it. There are 141 slow sectors with access time of around 1 second. This usually means they were reallocated. They seem to be evenly distributed over the drive and not grouped in some area. My other drives never show anything over 250ms access time.
  3. Hi, I have a dual port HDD dock from Sharkoon. I've bought it when first USB3 models were released many years ago. I too was wondering it's max size limit, but so far it takes my biggest drives (6TB) without issues. I think I have this one: https://en.sharkoon.com/product/1686/10066
  4. Hi, I've tested my 4TB drive with Victoria 4.73b and it shows quite a few slow sectors. Here is a picture: The one sector around 3s is my fault as I've checked SMART status while it was testing the drive. Should I be concerned? The drive is for backup purposes and has around 20h of usage so far. But it's not new, made in 2016. Now I'm testing all my HDDs... Thanks

Two different 2TB WD EARS drives

Well in the mean time I got the replacement unit. This is the same model as my other two. Transfer rates are OK. Random access seems a bit faster. As it doesn't go over 15.1ms, while other two won't go under 15.7ms - all tested with HD Tune Pro 4.60. So far so good

Two different 2TB WD EARS drives

I have checked it the moment I installed the drive. I also checked SMART status with Everest. Everything was OK. Only the transfer rates and random access was "wrong". I did noticed a day or two ago that SMART data has changed for reallocated sectors - now its 1. Even with this error WDDiags status is OK!? It might be faulty drive from the beginning

Two different 2TB WD EARS drives

Then it seems that mine is somehow broken!? And it has nothing to do with the specific model.

So how do your drives compare to the one I got?

Two different 2TB WD EARS drives

The problem disk was manufactured 2010-09-20. The other one was bought in July I can't check the date on the disk right now.

Two different 2TB WD EARS drives

I then installed this disk in another computer. In this one I can change AAM settings, but the results are the same. Like nothing has been changed with AAM. The same random access and transfer graph.

Two different 2TB WD EARS drives

No go. I can't change AAM setting on any 2TB EARS drive. I have tried with HD Tune Pro 4.60 and with WinAAM V2.92. The setting seem to be the same for both EARS drives and it is set at 254 (High Performance).

Two different 2TB WD EARS drives

AAM setting was actually the first thing on my mind but using HD Tune Pro 3.50 I could change it - it reported error "Error setting AAM". Now I got the newest 4.60 and will try it later today. Thx
  13. I knew about 1TB WD Green drives that some were 3 and other 4 platter and slower. Now I bought new WD20EARS-00S8B1 disk that is quite slower then my older WD20EARS-00MVWB0 that I bought in the summer. Even real-life copying is really slow, especially with smaller files (file size from 150-300KB) ETA is 16 hours ++ , while with older ETA is 8 hours. Both drives where partitioned and formated in Windows 7 and are in the same computer with SATA-2 connection. Has anyone noticed this performance difference with different WD20EARS drives? I'm definitly taking this drive back- WD20EARS-00MVWB0 WD20EARS-00S8B1 thx

    Western Digital 333 Platters

In the end they sent me 00D6B1 which is still 333MB/platter. The drive is very silent and cool compared to Seagate 10 or 11 series. Now I'm thinking on replacing 2 Seagates with WD-Greens.
