    Best drive cloning software

It seems like most people these days, including myself, prefer Aronis True Image. But Norton Ghost should work as well if you already have a copy lying around. You may find the discussion here helpful: http://forums.storagereview.net/index.php?showtopic=25499 Hiren's BootCD has it all
  2. First you should check if the HP firmware supports Seagate's PM bit. If you are running Linux, FreeBSD or Windows you could go to the downloads sections of: http://www.torque.net/sg/sdparm.html and fetch the sdparm 1.01 tarball or .exe . Here is some vendor specific output from a Seagate 15K.4 with standard firmware on it: # sdparm --vendor=sea --long /dev/sdb /dev/sdb: SEAGATE ST336754SS 0003 Direct access device specific parameters: WP=0 DPOFUA=1 Unit attention (seagate) [ua] mode page: PM 0 [cha: y, def: 0, sav: 0] Performance Mode IL 0 [cha: y, def: 0, sav: 0] Inquiry length UA 0 [cha: y, def: 0, sav: 0] Unit attention STRICT 0 [cha: y, def: 0, sav: 0] Strict when trying to alter unchangeable mode page fields SCSI2 0 [cha: y, def: 0, sav: 0] SCSI-2 lengths for control and caching mode pages or in Window something like: # sdparm.exe --vendor=sea --long PD3 (try "sdparm.exe --wscan" first to see what your disks are named). So if the HP firmware supports the PM bit and it is changeable then it could be set to one with: #sdparm --vendor=sea --set=PM <disk_name> Add a '--save' if you want to see it still set after the next disk power cycle. Great If have set performance mode to 1 right now. According to the sdparm site this is desktop mode. Thank you very much. 3. I have bought a 36GB Cheetah 15K.4 (HP labeled) for 25 euro's from a guy on a online selling site (some sort of Ebay) It also has HP firmware in it. When I read the review of this drive I noticed there's a desktop and a server 'version'. I guess this has to do with firmware. What I would like to do now is get the Seagate desktop firmware in it (if such a thing exists). Does anyone know where to obtain this software? Has anyone got it for me maybe? I don't really care if I demolish the disc, I have another one and for 25 euro's I don't really care.

seeks are getting higher and higher with modern ide drives. It's gone downwards since the days of the Fireball LM+ (a whonderfull drive) I'll stick with 10k scsi for windows and ata 7200 drives for data.
