    Simple Vista Question

Thanks. MSconfig is still nearly the same. Windows Defender of all things (tools, software explorer) has an easy to use way to enable/disable startup programs. You should also check IE (if used) under tools, manage add-ons to remove all the extra 'features' your friend got when updating flash (adobe) or java (sun).

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.7

Yes it does look some of the newer models are missing from the reliability DB. Not that I expect the cache size or interface to affect reliability very much. I only found one review of the 200GB version (100GB/platter vs 80GB for those reviewed here) and that was at Tom's (I know - but they *have* a review). It looks like the 200GB version should score well against the other top drives. The low-level results (7200.7 200GB review) show a good improvment vs the review here - 66MB/s (high) and 36MB/s (low). This is better then any 7200RPM drive reviewed here. (but I will be the first to admit this is not apples to apples) $149 is looking pretty good...

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.7

There is apparently a 200GB version of this drive (7200.7 Plus) available now: ST3120026A ST3160023A ST3200822A Formatted Gbytes (512 bytes/sector) 120 160 200 Discs/Heads 2/3 2/4 2/4 Seagate fact sheet Note that the 160 and 200GB both have 2 platters and 4 heads. That means the 200GB is higher density. Anybody have any experience with performance of this model? Seems fairly cheap (newegg @ $149) with 3 years...
