  6. Seagate Momentus Sata Password

No. Password is stored in a non-data zone. If the drive is in High Sec mode, factory password can be used with SECURITY UNLOCK DEVICE command to remove the pass. If the drive is in Max Sec mode, you can issue SECURITY ERASE PREPARE immediately followed by SECURITY ERASE UNIT. I use MHDD to issue these commands. Time consuming process, all data is erased, no info about anything is given during hte process (at least, with the tools I use), you dont even know if someting is working, but drive is re-certified and ready to use afterwards. I know there are other freeware utilities that does that too. Just search for hard drive password unlock and find a free one. How do you do this? I can't even get the drive to recognize in the bios, so I can't do anything in Mhdd. Do you connect it via sata or ide via adaptor? Can you plug it in after the bios boot screen and that will work? Do you know how to issue the command in hex to erase the drive? I know the command, but cant seem to get to the right place to enter it. Or, do you need the serial port adapter thing to do it? thanks lots lou

  13. Raid Install Vista error Please Help!

Ok, I think I found the answer. You must make certain that the array or logical drive is set to 0 not 1 apparently vista will not install on any part/drive 1. Also, your sata cd roms, or other drives including usb cannot be plugged in until you need to install your drivers, because it will see them as part/drive/array/logical disk 0 and you are screwed. I seem to have the correct drivers. I don't think it's the data on the drives as someone else mentioned. I have yet to get back to this rig and see what I get going. thanks lou ok, folks here is the answer: we had 4gb of ram. Pull 3gb of ram, and install to the array with 1gb ram. then put your ram back in and it works fine. Hope this helps someone. lou

  15. Ok, I have a customer who has a asus M3A32-MVP DELUXE/WiFi-AP mobo, with 2 500gb hitachi sata hds. I was trying to raid 0 or 1 them and this is how it went. I turned on the raid bios, deleted the logical drive, created a 931gb array, and exit and reboot. Go to install vista, load the drivers, and it finds the 931gb array. However, when you go to initalize it it says something like windows cannot determine if windows can be installed on the disk. Or something like that. I tried to raid 1 it too, same thing. It says error 0x80300002 and I can't find anything about this. Any Asus raid gurus know how to fix this? Xp also didn't work. Some people say what I found on the internet that some gigabyte boards have this problem also. Could it be something in the Marvell or some times it says ATI ahci raid controller not working with vista or ? Then why wouldn't xp work either? Also, could it be something with NCQ? I have done a lot of raid on xp and stuff, never had a vista deployment go like this yet. Also, I can disable raid and install on just one drive fine, why? Please help lou
