  1. I Agree with Sivar! If the drive is working fine, then you should not RMAs it right now. Wait a few days or weeks and see if the problems will come back. You've got 30 days with that RMAs # you recieved today. Yes, You've got better chance to recieve the Refurbished/Reconditioned than getting a new drive for a warranty replacement. Though, I recieved Brand New Drive from WDC Last time I RMAed one of my new WD2000JBRTL 8) It was making loud Humming noise like bees or Mosquitos. To my surprised, WD Sended me a brand new in retail box with Promise ATA-100 Tx2 in 3 days (Yes, WDC Do have Advance RMAs Now )
  2. i have installed xp, activated it, formatted, installed xp, and activated it multiple times on the exact same system with no hardware changes. in microsoft's activation eyes, this is no different from your situation. You're right, honold. I did the same thing many times! installed, re-installed, re-formatted to about the 7th or 8th time and then I couldn't register untill I called for a new code.

    I expected more :(

You should keep the total lenght at 32MB to compare with other graphs. How did you install your OS then? Did you press F6 during install OS and RAID Driver? How did you configue your RAID 0? Did you connect each of the 2 WD2000JBs on each separate end of IDE cables? It lots and lots to go and check to see if you configue correctly. Begin with Your Hardware installed. How did you formate your Disk Drive for RAID array? What's the block size? :?: I'm not a fan of RAID set up anymore! Today IDE Disk Drive are all fast enought for my needs and I'm no longer a gamer. Too much effort for too little gain in performance if any.

    I expected more :(

Yea, Giggy That's lower than one drive alone. My WD2000JBs or WD1800JBs or IBM 180GXP look better than your RAID 0. Are you sure that's from 2X WD2000JBs RAID 0?
  5. I'm sure lots of members here are Dual boot or tripple or more. Yes, you can use your copy twice before you have to call in for a new code. I'm using 3 boots in one of my machine all from the same copy of XP Pro. The first boot, C: Drive standdard XP Pro., Second Boot G: Drive XP Pro with Chiness's supports and 3rd boot K: Drive XP Pro with Thai's supports. All working fine! 8) I called in for a new codes for my 3rd boot and it took about 10 minutes for all key in numbers and answer questions to the machines( No Human!) I'm doing lots of Photoshop, Transfer most of my many years collections to DivX, Family films, JPEG, DVD DV just like you. I've got a little more than 1.2 TBs in this machine so I needs more than 2 boots for all the works. Good luck and Have fun.
  6. Why did I suggest WinXP Home? I chose the current version of Windows that fits within JA's budget. I don't see why you find it necessary to put-down the Home version of WinXP. The typical home user does not need the additional features of the Pro version so it makes no sense for those users to add bloat they will never use. Furthermore, OEMs most certainly do not give it away free! If JA believes he needs the additional features of WinXP Pro, that's his decision, but I do NOT believe for one second that anyone (outside of perhaps MS employees) can buy a LEGAL copy of WinXP Professional for $35. I was able to purchase a fully legit copy of Windows XP pro for $39 plus $8 S&H and I am in no way shape or form an MS employee. It was a limited time offer, but it does happen. Always keep an eye on www.bensbargains.net for XP deals. I bought it right online and so did a number of other people who I let sign up to my "pretend" business. It took a little work to fill out their forms, but I have a copy in my hands, and if you are still in disbelief, I can post an image of it. (Very unique packaging) Handruin, Thank you for the tip of where or how you can get one for $39.00! What I'm trying to say and let some SRs members know Where to buy a Legit real copy of WinXP Pro for $35.00 But it seems that some members thinks that's a Bullshit Story! :!: No, you don't have to be an Employees to get the Real WinXP Pro for $35.00. If you know someone, Family members, Friends working for Microsoft or other contract works for Microsoft you can also buy one as that Price. I just pick up a few for my son's 12th birthday. As I said, Every body know somebody some where and Believe me, a lot of Microsoft Employees I know Don't even buy ANY Software! So their Limit of Buying Software Each year is Not use. That's when to ask friends who live and works here to get you Windows XP Pro. for only $35.00. I bought 8 copy for personal use at home and always keep 1 or 2 extra just incase I'll neet it. No, It's not Bullshit story as some members believed. 8O Thousands or even 10 of thousands who Only know someone or Family/Friends working for Microsoft Bought or Can buy A Full Version WinXP Pro. for $35.00 8) Not Only that, Microsoft Store Also Carry None Software Like Keyboard, Mouse, Controlers, Jacket,Books,T-Shirt, Gifts etc etc. Microsoft Store Also Sale None Microsoft Brands. :!: Seriously Though.. Recommended a Home version is not... Well you know the rest. If you don't know where to buy Windows XP Pro for $35.00, well then ASK! I may just gonna send a free copy if you ONLY ASK and didn't pissed me off by your smart ass remart.! Fools always will be one.
  9. IHHO' date=' nice components and good advice - but you're missing an important piece... The O/S !!! So let's add in WinXP Home for $80. I would also highly recommend substituting the ASUS P4PE for $150 for your Intel board. Finally, your definitely a little too 'light' on the case-psu (a decent combo such as an Antec 1080+ with 430W will run closer to $125). So with correcting the obvious typo on the CPU results in a total of $1956.[/quote'] But, Why WinXP Home??? Anyone in this kind of semi-pro still using XP Home??? Is that what most OEM gives out for free? I wouldn't use it when you can get a full Pro version for $35.00 at Microsoft Store. If this is so, my Linux TCO numbers may need some readjsutment? May I ask where can you buy a legal copy of Windows XP Pro so cheaply? I just checked and amazon lists it for $272.99 and Newegg for $143.00. Yuyo, Yes, this is a real LEGAL WinXP Pro. A full version not a crapy Home neither! YES, These are at local "MicroSoft Store" Sold By Microsoft in Bellevue-Redmond Campus, Just off from 148th Ave NE. Windows XP Pro. for $35.00! Most other software, Games are all $10.00. 8) If you don't live here in the area or near by, Well every body know some body and I'm sure, Yuyo... You've got friends live or works for Microsoft  Ask them to stop by the store and pick up one for you!
  10. IMHO, IBM 180GXP 60GB should do better than the 80GB's one since it only use a single Platter. Less heat, less noise and better boot up & seek time. Yes I second the 60GB 180GXP if space is not importance!

Seek Error Rate (SMART) - problem?

By the way, Drive Health Tools is one of the very best and easy to use. It's look similar to Speed Fan but with much better options. 8) You can get one from Download.com or just use Google  A free Bata 2.0.24 version or paid for a full version.

Seek Error Rate (SMART) - problem?

Yeb, that's look like your WD1000JBs going to need some service. Have you try WD DATA Lifeguard Tools? Some time that will help repair or re-wright 0 & 1 to your Disk. Try the tools and see what's wrong with it,if it pass or what's reports show. If WD Tools won't fixed it, then you might wanna call WDC Custommer Supports or do online RMAs. WD1000JBs known to have some problems and may be that the reason WD making them. Ask for WD1200BB/JB as a replacement if you talk to custommer supports. Some time they will do that

    WD400JB vs WD800JB

Indeed. I just looked at WD site, and they still have 4 heads and 6 heads listed respectfully for the 60GB and 120GB.....not that I would put a lot of stock in what they place on their pages (historically error prone). CK I agree with you CK! I feel like buying Lotto when I'm buying WDs! I've got a few WD1200JBs That I'm sure a few difference Platters size. Are they 40GB/Platter or 60GB/Platter or even a new 80GB/Platter??? I just bought a few more WD1200JBs with Jan 2003 Production date on some and Dec. 2002 on the others. I know I've got 60GB/Platter on my WD1800JBs But, what about the WD2000JBs? are they 67GB/Platter or 80GB/Platter since WDC news said it on productions line since Last Month! Anyone Know? Where's WDC Supports Rep. when we needs the answer :?:

    WD400BB versions

The following is straight from WD: Thank you for contacting Western Digital. You can tell if the drive has 40 GB per platter by looking at the tenth character in the model number. Example: WD400BB-XXDEA0 The "WD400BB" part indicates the drive is a 40 GB 7200 RPM ATA-100 drive. The "XX" can be any combination of two numbers and is not important. The "D" indicates the drive is a 40 GB per platter. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know. Regards, Steve W. Customer Service and Support Western Digitalhttp://www.wdc.com Steve, That's doesn't sound right to me! If you're ref. the 10th # as the code to tell the size of the platter(s) :?: Well, what about any other Models? What about the WD800BB/JB or WD1200BB/JB, WD1800BB/JB etc etc? What's the norm of reading code? How can one as a customer tell what he or she buying???? I bought over 100 WDs drive per year and still buying, I feel like I'm buying Lotto :!: You never know what you're gonna get. Talk about confusing Customers, I think WDC is the worse
  17. No, It Doesn't look right! I've got a few WD1200JBs and None look like that! Could it got shipping damage? Call WDC supports and Yes, you can get Advance RMA. I just did Advance on one of my new WD2000JBRTL because of it Humming buzzing noise like Mosquitos or Bees! I recieved a Brand New Retail drive in just 3 days for a replacement! And Yes, A Brand New Retail Box with Ultra ATA-100 Tx2! 8)
  18. Giggy, If you've an extra Promise ATA100 Tx2, would you like to sell me one? I needs one more for one of my machine. I've got 2 Promise ATA-133Tx2 left over that came with Maxtor 6Y200PO's to trade with you if you like :?: Or if not, I'll buy one from you! Email me at  Lex.ua@attbi.com If you're interesting to sell the ATA-100 Tx2 or if you like to trade with my ATA-133 Tx2
  19. I'm owning LOTS OF WD2000JBs in my personal Machines at home not counting 65 workstations at works. I'm using mostly WDC and a few Maxtors and some IBM including 8 180GXP 180GB. I'be got more than 1.2+ TB, and yes more than 1200+GB in one of the Machine in media's room. That's not the point I try to say here. You should not store ANY DATA in your RAID 0 Array at all I know I won't do that. I know what I'm talking about when it come to RAID 0 set up. That was my past time toy a few years ago and now the IDE hard disk drive are much better and as fast or faster than some RAID set up. Since you do not want to store any importance DATA in your RAID 0 why you want to have 400GB for nothing. Why not USING WD800JB as I mention ealier. WD800JBs are 8MB Cache NOT 2MB as you said. You'll only barely gain a little bid of performance if any at all from the hardware RAID 0 you mention. The risk is much higher. That's why I said, I'll NOT so any more RAID 0 set up again! May be RAID 0+1 and that's just May be.
  20. Sorry, What I gonna say was... If you really got to have Raid... Why Not 2 WD800JBs on Raid and 1 WD2000JBs for back up??? I think it make more sence to save your Importance DATA in one big None Raid drive and use smaller drives on that risky Raid 0.
  21. Why Raid on 2 large drive? You can't use the 400GB space from your Raid 0 for any kind of importance storage! Raid is too risky. I do not and will not do anymore Raid period. Your 2 WD2000JBs are fast and almost as fast as Raid, in some case they'll out performce Raid! You'll have better performace with 2 WD800JBs and use the WD2000JBs as storage and back up. If you really want to risk your time, affort & DATA and got to have Raid, then why not boot from Raid???
  22. Just walked in local CompUSA for blank CDRs and I end up with another WD2000JBRTL 200GB 8MB Special Edition With Promise ATA-100 Tx2 for a very good price, $199.00 after $100.00 rebate. 8) Down side is... Limit 1 rebate per address  As always..for limit time, Sale through Jan 25 03. Now that's a good deal! (IMHO)

    WD press release: 250GB

Well, and who are you to tell me what should I use? I'm perfectly happy with using Lian-Li PC-70s and a few Antec Performance Plus 1080s with lots of hard drive in them. I don't like RACK system personally, as a business Owner, I don't even use rack system as workstations.. Only my server which I don't have no choice! I'm not an everage joe user nor a geek, But this is the year 2003 and the advance of computer's well enought to trust and store most of the importance and none importance DATA in to it. I've got more than 700+GB of my 40+ years collection of Movies from Old VCRs, LDs to current DVDs. Plus family's Photo, Karaoke, International Music Video, 3 Generations of wedding Video,Graduations Video etc etc. You bet I do all the back up. The Original are still store in boxs and CDRW is one of the two But I invest in More hard drives because they're ease of use. I installed More than 1.2 TB of disk drive space in one of my machine because almost 1/2 is for back up. If one hard drive go bad, well I still have one set that will works 8) If all going to go bad so be it. I still have the original in the boxs. If only WDC or Maxtor will come out to 500GB+ Soon, I'll be their customer and buy the beast.
  24. Where in Anandtech did you see? Any link? :?: I want to buy more, a few more if I can get such a low price! I thought $199.00 is a very good deal already for the WD2000JBRTL. Hell, if I can get the WD2000JBs for $144.00 like you said, I'll buy 100 of them or may be more 8)

    WD press release: 250GB

Wow, what on earth could you have filled all that space up with? That's an awful lot of sound/video/whateverelse Yes, and that's not all the drives I'm using for my personal use. I still going to need more room for others and everyday use. What can I say, I'm an Old man that I need space to store most of my collection from 60'70'80' Singles & LPs, 250+ LDs Movies, Music Video, Karaoke, 300+ DVD To DivX Movies, Family Photos, Wedding Video, etc, etc. Plus some very expensive Doc. Need I say more? I've got 6 machines in my house! Everyone got their own machine, I've got this one in media room plus 2 in my office room and between the 3 machines, I've got total of 24 large drives. Still want me to count more??? I've got total of 65 workstations and 1 medium server at work ( Family business!) Now if I can get Big enought Hard drive installed in all my machines, I'd save alot of space and lots and lots of $$$$ 8) Again, I don't know about the others.. May be they're too young to know or understand. Space is like Gold to me.
