  1. Some of the laptop drives have flash NAND and are hybrids. Although most reviews do not find much benefit to the flash (because it is too small to matter and because the way the firmware decides what to put on the flash), I wonder if these hybrid drives do better in RAID 0 than standard laptop drives? Also has anyone seen a comparison anywhere of RAID 0 laptop drive arrays esp looking at rotational speeds?
  2. Why are my writes slow - 100 MB/s Just upgraded to the latest firmware. This is a brand new ssd.

    raid bottleneck

well i discovered that my bandwidth limitation is the result of 2 things: first i needed to disable ncq. second, i needed to get the stripe to 16k and below please refer to the images located here: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=515124 My epiphany is documented 3/4 of the way down with the post entitled "It's the Stripe Stupid". What is the maximum theoretical bandwidth of this kind of array? I wonder why hdtune shows a difference between 16k stripe and 8k stripe but hdtach does not?

eh? how did it fit? isn't that card designed for an x4 slot? sorry , you're right-that half length pcie slot on the dfi mobo is x4. anyway, i still have to figure out why i am bandwidth limited. what is the maximum str i should see with this kind of array?

    raid bottleneck

well i figured out that turning off read ahead cache gives me 40 mb/s more. the 3ware card was ina pciexpress x2 slot - not the other full pci express slot.

so i guess there is no insight on this bandwidth limitation. I've read something about SCSI port vs storport but do not understand the salient difference (why would storport be faster?) At least I did find another thread (in this forum about the 9650 card) confirming that pciexpress controller cards have a write limitation due to the pciexpress standard. But why would my on board nvidia controller also be crippled?

    3ware 9650SE-8LPML major write problems!

4 raptors at RAID0 (hopefully for video editing) win xp pro 32 bit minimal instal. nvidia 6.86 drivers have to look but do not remember. would his be in the motherboard bios? i have the 3ware bios set to performance. and i did the registry edit as well (although that made no difference. please see my graphs at http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=515124)

    3ware 9650SE-8LPML major write problems!

I too am having 9650 troubles though setting the bios on the card to performance did help. It still doesnt perform anywhere near where it should. I cannot seem to get more than 120 mb/s STR on my raid array of raptors. And the funny thing is hdtach shows a flat graph. Now I know you will realize that's just at the pci bandwidth limit but I am using the motherboard sata ports. The pc consists of: DFI nf4 sli expert Venus, 2 gb ram, opteron 170 @ 2.76 ghz. I ran a battery of tests and the drives are ok, the cables are ok. To spare bandwidth I would kindly ask you to peruse my data already posted here: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=515124 I dont know if it's rude to point to threads posted elsewhere so forgive me if it's against forum rules.

  11. wow! how did you do that! tnx. v. much.
  12. there is a speed gain by adding more drives to a raid 0 array. How much is that gain with a raptor 74? a seagate 7200.9? a hitachi 7k250? has anyone a link to post becasuse the data i have found while searching is scatterred. tnx.

    RAID or not?

overclockers dot com has an interesting 2 part article. dominick compares a raptor 74 to 2 raptors in raid0. booot times and game load times are 1/3 to 1/2 less. everything else parity.
