    CRT vs LCD

How can you distinguish between a TN and a PVA/MVA panel? Usualy the manufacturers do not list this info. I have an ACER AL1715smd and I'm very happy with the picture quality. Does anybody know which type of panel it has?

    7-Zip

Although rar makes smaller files, lately I find Zip a better choice since it is noticebly faster (subjectively up to 50% faster with large files) and its compressed files are only marginally bigger.

    Talmud

I fully agree. I'm inclined to believe that shallow literal reading of the holy scriptures is a source of many of the troubles in todays world. The texts were written by some of the wisest men at their time. So its natural to expect that the content will be metaphorical and deep.

    Managed Switches

Not quite the cheapest if you take into account that each user needs to be assigned a VLAN manually and it usually takes a skilled admin to do that. On the other hand you can configure ACLs once and let the system run with occasional routine check ups. Also since the switch will be used to provide a business service(its not a SOHO situation) it would be prudent to invest in a more capable and reliable device.

    Managed Switches

    a) Yes, however I doubt the receptionist will be able to do it unless the switch has a very user-friendly management GUI. Get a network admin to implement Access Control Lists

    Slow surfing while downloading

Download Express is a nice free download manager that allows you to precisely set the download speed. In fact I'm using it at the moment, downloading a Linux(libranet) ISO at 30KbB/s which leaves me and others who share this connection with 10kB/s for surfing. Check it out.

    8GB Flash for a grand

Plus the inherent reliability of the chips is far greater than of the failure prone mechanical disks. So you would have 0 access time, raid 0 goodness with inherent reliability of the mem chips. If only the # of write cycles wasn't limited.
  10. the register Do you think it's any good as a system drive?

    Who hates VB?

Here is a VB hater. I think it's for wanabee programmers. I wouldn't consider it a serious programming language and its good only for things like the above example(silly little windows programs). If yor profession just got 'deskilled' and now you want to start "programming" as soone as possible, then VB is your ticket. However, if someone wants a sound language that can be used for "software engineering", java or C++ are a good choice, IMHO.

    Registry Cleaner

I would be very careful with those registry cleaners. Is too damn proble that something will get messed up. I had jv16 destroy my win2000 installation. So I would go the simple way(if there is such with windows). Whenever your PC gets too slow because of the HUUUGE registry, its probably better to format and reinstall. This way at least you know the results in advance, unlike with the registry cleaners. Or even better, do not install stuff that you can live without.
  15. All in good time. I will someday explain why Bilderberg is yet another overhyped political organization which we need not fear for the most part. Until then... OK, but hurry......we'll be holding our breath untill then.. hahah Thats funny....nice sense of humor tracker. Hey tracker, what are you tracking anyway?
