    I can't help you guys, just to say - two 9361 (bbu, cachecade, etc) are working fine, I tried DELL and IBM ones, mixed or both DELL, no problems at all. The only change from default settings is that I have disabled BIOS on the cards because I don't need to boot from RAID and it's bit faster. Also, they can be configured thru UEFI bios (bottom of advanced page). If more than one 3961 is installed, UEFI bios nicely lists all of them in advanced page and I can select which one to configure IBM 5210 or DELLs 9361. If it matters my mobo is ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS (dual socket). So problem looks more like mobo configuration than controller issue. Silly to mention but any OEM card can be flashed with firmware from broadcom, maybe they fixed issue by the time? Have you tried ? I flashed IBM and DELL cards with one from broadcom, they work well.
  3. This seems to be the most suitable forum group to post as I believe I am dealing with cables between controller and drive/enclosure. I apologize if I am wrong. I have Icy Dock "Tough Armor" 5.25" enclosure (6 x 2,5") for SAS/SATA enclosure MB996SP-6SB. SAS controller is 9361 and it supports all drives I have, SAS, SATA as long as they are connected directly to controller (using appropriate sas or sata forward breakout cables). Problem begins when I connect enclosure to SAS controller (using SFF-8087 SAS to SATA Forward Breakout Cable) then my SAS SSDs aren't recognized any longer while SATA SSDs work fine. Do I need different cable for these SAS SSDs (Reverse Breakout, crossover)? Details: - IcyDock backplane has connectors that accept both SAS and SATA drives in enclosure. Both SAS and SATA disks fit correctly and that's according the manufacturer's manual. - On rear side of IcyDock there are 6 "SATA" connectors (labeled SATA) - which I find strange for SAS/SATA enclosure. - SFF-8087 SAS to SATA Forward Breakout Cable is used between SAS controller and enclosure.

I ordered: DELL 1.92TB, SAS 12Gb/s ( PX04SRB192) (which is actually Toshiba SSD MLC, 20nm) (Read: 1900MB/s • Write: 850MB/s • IOPS 4K read/Write: 270k/22k • Flash memory: 2D-NAND MLC, 19nm) I received: DELL 1.92TB, SAS 12Gb/s (MZILS1T9HCHP-000D4) (which is actually Samsung SSD PM1633 VNAND TLC, 40NM) (Read: 1200MB/s • Write: 900MB/s • IOPS 4K read/Write: 195k/31k • Flash memory: 3D-NAND TLC, 40nm) I am bit fedup with this wrong shipment but I don't feel like going thru process of re-sending and returning it on the other part of world. I wanted to see comparison in benchmarks of these two to see what to do but I can't find reviews on Can someone point me to benchmarks and comment on the quality of each drive; are they at least similar in quality and endurance. Should I return it or keep it; is it big difference? They are used for cloud hosting based on vmware. Which model is newer ?? Thanks
  5. SSD doesn't come directly from DELL but a reseller. It was ordered exactly by model number so I have every right to return it or full refund. But if Samsung is better /I doubt as Toshiba's 19nm looks newer technology to me/ I could keep samsung.... TBH, I am tired of of ping-pong with post and all that. Just need advice from people who know well both models.
  6. I used to buy Crucial M500 and M550 960GB and was quite happy with them (speed, IOPs, etc). I need more drives, similar qualities but I am lost now among various nands, controllers and manufacturing processes 16nm, 20nm.... TLC, 3D TLC, 3D MLC; Toshiba vs Crucial vs Samsung Nand and Controllers of Phison, SIlicon Motion, Marwell ... Seriously, the more I read, the less I know... I came up with some conclusion that Marwell controller and Micron MLC would be good option; anyway ... 1) What drive do you suggest as good replacement ? 2) Also - has 3D TLC reached stability of old planar MLC drives already ? 3) Any of these are good candidates ??     No it's not desktop. Workstation mobo, dual cpu, each SSD disk is hosting one vmware guest (attached to several sas hba). Server is on 24/7 but usage of SSDs is low actually... I know that any of above SSDs would survive (even ocz vertex was used for 4 years of virtualization and health is 100%; but let's consider something newer than sandforce lol). So back to original question; what is decent alternative to e.g. Samsung 850 pro or EVO or good old MLCs ?? Does Crucial MX300 TLC has decent performance ? I see benchmarks are way below Samsung EVO; which is weird....

  10. It is the slowest drive among 4 models tested. One thing that was left out of the conclusion is the price. So the question is: do you want slower SSD of 200GB from Seagate for 200 EU, or you need 200GB SSD from HGST which is 870 EU. Price ratio remains proportional for higher size SSDs as well. You will certainly think twice how you will use the drive before before making the final decision.
