  1. It is not the best, and has not been such in quite a while! It has the following features (2 good, other bad): * Large 4 TB capacity. * 5 year warranty. * Slow compared to Seagate, see below. * Very loud - most other HDDs are quieter. * Hot. * Power hog. * Expensive. One of the best HDDs right now at a good price, albeit with just 3 TB/3 year warranty, is this Seagate model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148844 (link is for the 2-year warranty model, but you can get the same drive with 3 years too.) It is better than the WD Black in all respects - faster, quieter, cooler, cheaper price per TB, better price/performance ratio - except the size and warranty. Seagate HDDs info: http://www.seagate.com/www-content/product-content/desktop-hdd-fam/en-gb/docs/desktop-hdd-ds1770-5-1409gb.pdf I can provide benchmarks of my 3 such Seagate drives tomorrow. I also have the WD Black 4 TB you mention. Seagate also have a similar 4 TB HDD, but it slower being only 5900 RPM and not 7200 like the above. Also please see this review: http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/6101/6/54-hdds-and-sshds-reviewed-the-best-drives-for-your-desktop-laptop-and-nas-tested-desktop-drives Quote from it: Looking at our test results reveals that the fastest disks for data storage are still the Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 drives. We can't help but notice that the 1 TB and 2 TB models are slightly faster than the 3 TB one. The fastest 4 TB drive is the Western Digital Black 4TB V2, although its performance lead over the Seagate Desktop HDD 4TB, which only operates at 5900 rpm, is very modest indeed.
