Wondering how much faster this WD 1200JB HD is with the 8MB cache. I am sure the same access time and transfer rate but in other stuff it should be faster. I wonder how close it will come to SCSI drives sense it should be alittle faster than the WD1000 SE right?

Perhaps the difference between the WD1200JB and WD1000JB will be the same as that between the WD1200BB and WD1000BB. If it's a bigger difference, then it would seem increasing cache has a bigger effect the higher the areal density of the drive.

Eugene, any word on when you'll be getting one to review (if at all)?

Mickey,

Interestingly, my WDC contact continues to say it doesn't exist yet and that I'd be the first to know.

Eugene wow that sure is interesting sense some people are getting them in a WD 1200BB packages. Hope its not true because then everyone who had a WD1000JB would be very disappointed. :(

The drive is listed at Ingram Micro as the WD1200JB Special Edition w/8MB Cache so the drive is a reality. :D There are, however, none in stock and no ETA is available.

Hmmm. I guess that means either all the folks claiming to have a WD1200JB are either misinformed or they're lying. Or, WD isn't "officially" releasing the 1200JB as a product, but doing test runs in retail and distribution to gauge interest. If there is enough interest, it'll be an official product.

Or maybe someone at WD goofed? *puzzled*

That's odd Eugene... I found one in my WD1200BB retail box tonight.

I checked the cache size and it 8192k.

Here is a pic of device manager showing both WD1200BB & WD1200JB.
Sorry, it's a Chinese version of Windows 2000 Pro. 8)

I never said that I doubted all these users that have been lucky (I presume, though I myself wait for the review ;)) enough to get one.

All I can do is sit here and wait for WDC to reopen Jan 2nd before I ask my contact what's up.
