The LaCie 2big is perfect for media enthusiasts or professionals that want to store large media libraries while still being able to transfer files very quickly.

Granted, the LaCie is awfully fast for a 2-disk storage device, but how can you recommend it when there are other units that are faster and cost the same or less? For example, OWC's Thunderbay IV/4. I believe the 12TB version goes for around $1,000 as well, and in RAID 5 attains 534 / 563 write/read MB/sec, which is quite a bit better performance for the same money (if I'm not mistaken).

Your comparing to a 4-bay to a 2-bay, so yes performance will increase as you add more drives. You can of course get a cheaper 2-bay option, but LaCie buyers aren't price sensitive. They want the build and quality that goes with LaCie products.

I’m one of them. For my office I prefer a quieter DAS than a cheaper one.
