Somehow, in the space of a few minutes, I lost about 14GB of storage on my 240GB Intel Series 530 SSD (this SSD has my OS on it). The only thing that changed was the additional RAM I just installed in my PC, upgrading from 8GB (2 x 4GB) to 16GB (4 x 4GB).

The SSD was sitting at 49.7GB of free space left prior to the upgrade. Now, my computer is telling me that my SSD has 35.6GB of free space left. What the hell happened, and how do I fix this?

Swap file increased in size with more RAM in the system... that or the hibernation file is matching the new RAM size.

Yep, what Kevin said-- larger swap file or larger hibernation file.

If you don't use hibernation, you can disable that and reclaim the space. Pagefile you could tweak, but make sure to leave it enabled if you do tweak it.
