not so sure...

I currently have a 500GB 5400rpm SAMSUNG HM500JI used for data.

My boot is a Crucial M4 256GB.

The data drive is used to store downloads and couple isos and my pictures. When I say pictures I mean around 20.000 DNGs (about 15MB/file) for use in Lightroom.

Considering the Lightroom use, I'm not sure an SSHD would be a lot more efficient than a HD (Hitachi 7K1000). And if SSHD, either a 7200rpm (Momentus XT 750GB) or a 5400 rpm (Thin SSHD 1TB).

I'd prefer 1TB but if I need to give up too much about perfs, I'm willing to compromise for a 750GB drive.

So, I have a couple (3) drives in target but really can't chose between those.

What do you all think ?

Thanks !

Honestly for that duty I'd go for capacity and not mess with hybrids for your use cases.

Thank you Brian.

I though it would go that way.

I'll probably end with the Hitachi or the XT 750GB depending on price but I think in this case 7200rpm and capacity or more important.

Thanks again.

You already have a SSD, so the power consumption penalty of a SSHD isn't worth it. For data storage go with a HGST 5K1000 1TB.
