9240-8i
How do I permanently remove a drive from my RAID5 array?
I had (7) 1TB drives working perfectly for quite sometime in a RAID5 config - 6 in the ARRAY, 1 Hot spare. I am attempting to reduce the number of drives to 5 (all 2TB drives). Of course, I am trying to do this without losing data.

Not sure that's possible. I've seen OCE (online capacity expansion), but never a "contraction" or "reduction".

4TB drives are under under $200 now, buy one (or two) and then resell after you're done with it?

Thanks for the response.
No time like this to test my DR plan. I do have a good backup.
This process will increase capacity, just reduce the # of drives.
Swapping since the 2TB drives are 6gb/s as opposed to the 1TB 3gb/s (and increased capacity).
I also read that LSI only reads total capacity based on the smallest drive in the array.
At any rate, I may re-initialize the array, restore data, log many hours.
One last option is to purchase 2 more 2TB drives and replace all 7.
Thanks again!!

Yep, if you have a full backup, recreating the array on your new 2TB drives is by far your best option.
