I've built a portable MINI NAS so that I can bring my entire collection to friends' places and so that we can swap massive amounts of data. Because the MINI NAS is a duplicate of my primary storage archive and needed to remain inexpensive and small, there is no storage redundancy. I also got a SeaHorse water-tight SE-540 case to transport it safely.

Specs:

CFI A7879 Mini-ITX Case w/4 Bays
MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 Motherboard
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
AMD A4-5300 3.4Ghz Processor
32GB Samsung MSATA SSD
8TB Disk Space (4x2TB Striped)
Gigabit LAN | WiFi IEEE 802.11b/g/n | Bluetooth
USB 3.0 Ports | eSata Port

Cost:
$360 complete diskless unit including SSD
$308 4x 2TB drives (refurbs from Amazon)

Compared to pre-built NAS units, I've not only saved money but my build is immensely more powerful.

Gee wiz, didn't realize I messed up the title until today....and that's due to the SATA cable that flew out of this NAS and scratched my eye sending me to the eye doctor for treatment :-o Ridiculous, I know...

Where'd you grab the case from? Logicsupply or Mini-ITX.com or...?

BTW which software/OS are you running-- FreeNAS or something for Linux RAID? Or something else?
