Just bought a Crucial v4 128GB SATA II 3Gbs, fresh install of Win7. Was very slow & froze, installing Intel Rapid Storage Driver seems to help......here's my test results.....not sure how to read them......are they any good?

2ms access time is way too high the 4ks are too low even for a budget SSD.


Since you didn't clone it(cloning causes most of the problems), try the LPM fix:

After that, it might just be the SSD or a motherboard issue. If you can, try it on another computer(any computer with sata).

Also, what computer/motherboard is it installed in?

Other than that, keep an eye on the below thread. Make sure to share your benchmark there if the LPM fix does not work and if it happens on a different computer.

Try the simple things first, like a different SATA cable, and a different port.

Boot an Ubuntu Live CD and run the "Disk Utility" which has a benchmark option. This can eliminate Windows/drivers as a cause if it's slow under an alternate OS as well.

Wow, I have a Corsair Nova 2 60GB with the same Phison controller and it scores a little better than yours, especially in 4K and access time. Although with that said, my Nova scores terribly in 4K and access time compared to all other SSDs I have ever used. I recently installed Win8 on it (on a bedroom Netflix PC with the fastest Llano APU) just to see if it was as slow as I remembered when I bought it last year. It was unbearable and I cloned that install to an even older Corsair Force 120. With the Nova, I was seeing 34,000 to 76,000 ms access times in Win8's Task Manager while installing updates and apps. With the F120, that dropped to a max of 200-300 ms.

I bought the Nova impulsively after reading a review around August 2011, wondering to myself if any SSD could actually be that bad. Well, it's pretty bad, truthfully. I have 5 year old WD 7200rpm platter drives that stutter less and give a smoother experience. At least it's silent. I'll put up some bench screenshots tomorrow when I'm around my PC, just so you can compare one Phison drive to another.

Edit...I meant to say "Disk Latency" under Win8's Task Manager, not access time.

Considering you can get some "real" SSD drives on sale for cheaper than the V4, I'd say they're pretty rubbish. I honestly don't know why Crucial bothered with these drives. Here in the UK the much faster M4 is often cheaper than the V4 due to reductions and offers.
