The top black part - is metal or plastic? Seem metal but want to make sure :D

All metal design, just anodized. Feels really, really nice and strong.

How does this drive differ from the new USB 3 G-Tech drive - do you think they have the same performance as the G-Tech is a bit cheaper

Probably very similar performance, we haven't had the single G-Tech drives in hand.
