Chipsets with 3TB HDD capacity. Do they support 4TB and larger?

I noticed that the brand new Icydocy screwless 2 bay enclosures MB662USEB-2S-1 are advertised as with 3TB HDD capacity compatibility. I'm curious if there's anything specific in RAID chipsets; particularly theirs' that would give me issues when using 4TB hard disks or 5TB disks.

I was planning on buying a couple of Seagate 4TB GoFlex Desk's and using their internal 4TB 7200RPM SATA HDD's in the Icydock; RAID1'ing them.

I emailed icydock tech support; however, I'm almost positive they will just read what it says on their device's advertisement as my answer.

PS: The reason I ask is because I've been adding larger and larger Sata disks to my 6year old PC's Intel Matrix ICH8R controller without any problem; and, thought that maybe all RAID controllers don't really mind how large SATA HDD's are; well at least within reason.

Any useful information will greatly be appreciated. I'm sure where else to ask this question.

Thanks,
MKANET

Hi MKANET,

At the moment, we are unsure of the compatibility with the newer 4TB hard drives. We are in contact with our engineering team and will have an investigation and answer as soon as possible. We have also confirmed your e-mail with us and have already replied there.

Please do feel free to let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!

No idea, but given the LBA limits and whatnot, honestly I would expect them to work...

/me knocks on wood
