Today we look at the new Netgear N900 and see how it stacks up in the storage department.

Netgear N900 (WNDR4500) Review

Hey Kevin -

Thank you for writing this review. I just picked up a Netgear WNDR4500 a couple days ago with the hope of using it with an external USB drive, but haven't been able to get it to work (yet). In your testing did you happen to come across any limitations regarding the size of an external drive connected via USB? The drive I'm attempting to use with it is a 3TB Western Digital drive - but when I connect it to the Netgear router via USB, the drive doesn't turn on/spin up. I'm wondering if it's because the Netgear 4500's firmware can't handle a 3TB drive.

Any feedback or thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
- m

*note: i just went back and checked, and looks like the Netgear WNDR4500 review was actually written by Andrew Baxter...and he may have done the testing himself as well. If you could get his feedback on this also, it be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, it is. There's a power supply plugged into the external USB drive and it is plugged into the wall.

I also reached out to Netgear via their support online chat - and they said that none of the Netgear routers with USB drive ports support external USB drives greater than 2TB in size :(
