hello everyone

i need help here
i have WD mybook studio 1.5Tb... after today power glitch
CrystalDiskInfo SMART status showing cautions
i see Current Pending Sector value is 7

then i run chkdsk /f /r
step 1 thru 4 didn't give anything wrong
but in step 5, after few % ... its starting to free cluster fixed

the result showing no bad sector
but the SMART status still showing Current Pending Sector

how to fix this ?
should i RMA the drive?

Hardware and software viewing of bad sectors are two different things. Software can try to remap around the problem spot, but the drive will still have that pending bad sector regardless.

Bad sectors is never really a good thing, and if the drive is under warranty I would try to exchange it.

is it possible, when power glitch it write error log to SMART
but rather than actual bad sector, it just an error log in SMART status ?

hdd tune showing same SMART status like crystaldiskinfo, but WD DLG SMART showing no current pending sector
(200 200 0)... why this happen ?
i am running DLGdiag extended test which still need 4hours before it completed

yes, exchange the drive should be safest way

What is the raw SMART data for the drive? If CDM and HDTune are showing something other than 0, then the drive is reporting it regardless of what the WD utility says.

Yea no doubt about that then... bad sectors. Perhaps the WD utility has a threshold before it throws a red flag?

My experience is that in most cases Pending sector count returns to zero and is added to the reallocated sector count. I am not sure when this happens, maybe after the sector is moved or verified as good/bad.

*sorry for japanese text, i am using win7 jp
it said 0kb of bad sector
WD diag extended test also giving clean result

i haven't try wipe the drive and reformat it to see if fix the issue
as i need to backup the data in that drive first (going to do it today)

i contacted WD support, they said try new firmware + smartware (which i did always using their latest firmware+smartware)
if still getting problem, request for replacement or RMA
guess to be safe i will just backup and ask for replacement, but if they giving refurb drive, i might try reformat first and see if the drive really faulty or not, i always not confident with refurb product

hello

i have new question here

few days ago i took the drive the shop for exchange
the shop then tell me because it need to RMA it and it will take around 2weeks possible more depends on situations

because i cant get instant exchange, i think over and try reformatting the drive first
currently it still formatting still around 25%

but when i check crystal disk... the Current Pending Sector disappear
the drive turn back to healthy state
here the data from crystaldisk info :

do that means the drive success in reallocation badsector ?
or the last uncorrected sector count just because power-outage/glitch happen ?
as the drive in healthy condition i don't think i can RMA the drive, without showing some issue

also is there possibility firmware manipulate SMART data ?
ie. reallocation = 0 in smart status or resetting smart status

well if nothing wrong with the drive then its all good,
i just paranoid as i use the drive for backup
so i hope anyone can give some info or someway to make sure the drive really in good condition

thanks in advance

PS: as this still formating... i will update if there any changes when the format complete
