Intel Releases Atom Processor-Based Storage Platform

Intel today announced its storage-optimized Atom processor-based platform for home and small office storage markets. The platform includes the single-core Atom D410 and dual-core Atom D510 processors and Intel 82801IR I/O controller.

These chips didn't really need any more performance, so I suppose that's a bit of a bonus to go with the real interesting bit, a 50% power use reduction. I normally don't care a whole lot about power consumption but for a NAS or Windows Home Server that's on 100% of the time, every watt dropped matters.

So, once again we have 12 USB ports, but probably 4 SATA ports. How about an Atom board with 12 SATA ports (and a decent 12 bay case)? That's all I wanted.

Yes the 4 SATA input support is kind of lame...limits you to 4TB if you want redundancy.
