Samsung EcoGreen F3EG 2TB Eco-Friendly Hard Drive Released

Samsung has updated their EcoGreen HDD line with the F3EG. The new 3.5" desktop drives feature 500GB platters, and come in sizes up to 2TB; 500GB more than the current generation F2EG. The F3EG uses a SATA 3.0Gb/s interface and 16MB or 32MB buffer memory.

Past experience with Samsung hard drives does not make me overly anxious to pick up one of these. A 16MB buffer also seems small.

Newegg's been selling these for over a month... I wonder why Samsung's press release was so slow.

Their Eco line isn't about performance at all; it's a low power consumption and quiet operation game...not that more buffer cache will drain much power. We'll see how it stands up to the Western Digital Caviar Greens.
