Newegg.com has the Hitachi Travelstar 7K500 2.5" 500GB 7200RPM notebook hard drive on sale for $94.99 after $15 mail-in rebate card (price before rebate card: $109.99).

We are in the process of reviewing this drive now:

I am extremely tempted to pick this up right now. :)

Hard to argue that price for perhaps the best performing notebook HDD.

Wow - it is even cheaper at TigerDirect:

$89.99 - $15 MI rebate card = $74.99.

I finally caved this morning and bought one. :) Order total came to $89.99 + $7 shipping = $96. After rebate it will be $81.

Guess what arrived this morning! Now that is what I call fast service.

Cloning my Seagate over now. :D

Edit: now this is where USB 3.0 would come in handy . . .

Well done. With the review model you could run some notebook RAID action. Anywhere you can jam that extra drive in? Do you really need the battery?

I would love to pack another one of these guys in my notebook. A 9.5mm drive is actually thicker than my notebook's battery pack!

Incidentally I was looking around at these drives and Tiger still has the 7K500 for %75 after rebate. Tremendous deal.
