Sorry my question was;

If a drive has those characteristics over the Black, would it be more suited for the intended application?
Not; is the F3 better in any way than the WD Black.

Drive performance as a single drive vs. in an array may have very little correlation, as firmware optimization for RAID use is a whole 'nother story vs. single drive use.

Honestly, no idea. Differences would probably be marginal at best, you're not proposing a use that would stress either drive hard enough to show their limitations.

This is a good point, even if the F3 is more ideal for the intended use from a single drive perspective.
I'll still have to ascertain whether it's ideal for RAID usage, in case I decide to go that route.

My initial plan is to just span all the disks, but I will play with software RAID, & later maybe even hw RAID.

The usage pattern of Storage/BU drives typically dictates larger, more sustained, R/W's does it not?
So I was thinking, assuming the F3 still has an edge over the Black in this area, it'd be the better pick.

LOL - that may not be the answer you want, but the answer is, the difference won't matter perceptibly in either case. Now, if you talk about drives with faster platters, more cache, etc. those are material differences. So is the F3 better for what you want? Maybe, but if you went with the other drive you were initially considering you wouldn't notice a difference.

Yeah it's cool,

I just thought you'd need to know more about the intended use before coming to that conclusion so readily.
Hence I was half expecting a response would consist of questions to garner a more detailed picture.

But you guys aren't my personal technicians, so sorry if I sounded a little unappreciative.
