There seems to be about 20 hits on google on this error code. If anything, I guess I could feel special.
I just received this disk and it's a Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB HD103UJ. Any idea on what it means? Does anybody know if this is a seriously faulty HDD or is something wrong with the software? Division overflow sounds like a program error, but who am I to judge?

Spinrite doesn't properly work with those drives. Chuck Spinrite in the garbage and use something else.

I guess I should. Can't say I'm a great believer in SpinRite. Ran Samsungs own HUTIL and there was no problems reported. Did a surface scan of the entire hdd. Same with HD Tune error scan, no errors.

If anybody is interested in a possible solution though...
Download and burn a WIN98 boot CD from this .iso:
http://www.allbootdi...98_bootdisk.iso
Boot from the CD and when you're at the DOS prompt insert the SpinRite CD and change dir to the optical drive with the cd command and type "spinrite" to run spinrite. Hopefully it works.

IIRC HUTIL has now been superseded by ES-UTIL.

I had the same problem.

I got a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive and ran it through Spinrite Level 4 before putting any data on it.

Spinrite fails between 35% and 36%, or immediately if I start it past 35%, with a Division Overflow Error. It's happened on 3 different systems.

Crash Info from AMD System (A8N32-SLI Deluxe, X2 3200+):
Division Overflow ErrorCritical Error at: 5672eax: 3EC10000 esi: 00010000ebx: 00000000 edi: 0000003Fecx: 3EC10000 ebp: EC8B0000edx: 000000FF esp: 00003FF6ds: 1063 es: 1063 fs: 6FE8gs: 3F2E ss: 33F2 fl: 0246

Crash Info from Intel System (Intel BADAXE2 975XBX2, Q6600):
Division Overflow ErrorCritical Error at: 5672eax: 00058079 esi: 00000000ebx: 00000000 edi: 0000003Fecx: AEA80000 ebp: 00000000edx: 585B00FF esp: 00003FF6ds: 10A4 es: 10A4 fs: 6FE8gs: 0040 ss: 3433 fl: 0246
I just tried it on a brand new ASUS M3A78-EM with an X2 4850e 2.5ghz and it came up with the same error code.

I don't know if it's a problem with Spinrite, or with the 1.5TB Seagate drive.

I emailed GRC and they told me that it's probably a issue with the bios, etc. I tried using the 98 boot CD posted above and switching over to Spinrite, but it doesn't fix the problem.

There wasn't a lot of info online about the error code. If you're having a similar problem, post your system info so we can figure it out.

If it passes Seagate SeaTools I wouldn't worry about it.
