Question is, how long do these remain vaporware...

A German shop, cyberport.de, indicates for the HD103UJ "Presumably available starting from 14.06.2007" and gives a price of 259,90 Euro:

(In Firefox, the link returns to a T166 page after about 10 seconds of showing the details/specs.)

Wow, if it's that soon... that could make a very interesting 3-way competition between Seagate, Hitachi, and Samsung. Competition is definitely a good thing!

How is that all these links found with Google are German shops?
Since when new hardware are not launched first in Japan or the US?

Smells like hoax.

Well, if it's a hoax, I guess we'll all know soon enough....

I'm reminded of the MP1 and M5 press releases that said those drives would be available in May:

Any news on those drives' true availability?

At the first look this sounds like unbelievable but yes really this is possible... May-be really it was easier for Samsung to make a 3-platter drive on super-density platters than 4-platter drive on a bit less dense platters!
Considering high vibration of current models maybe four platter design would have vibrated so much that it would have broken itself. :P

But interesting question how can they make the 750GB model of these 333GB platters then?...
May-be 750GB model is still on 3x250GB platters (or may-be 3x333GB short-stroked)?
Some STR curves of second largest T133 and T166 serie drives I've seen suggest that they use smaller data density (or then 5400rpm) than largest drives of serie.

I'm not sure if I'm going to take the word of that nameless manager of Samsung that these drives are 3-platter. First, it'd be quite a jump, much bigger than to expect from Samsung, or from any manufacturer for that matter. Second, that model number HD10xUJ differs from HD75xLJ in number of heads. "L" is the same as with biggest variants of T133 and T166 series: 6 heads (3 platters).

My guess would be that it is 4-platter drive. Only time will tell... someone has to pop open one to see it for sure. And I don't think that's going to happen for a while.
Antec 1200 | HX520W | Commando | Q6600 G0 @ 3.15GHz | Noctua NH-U12F | 8GB of RAM | HD 4670 (passive)
7 TB of storage: 1x 1TB 1st gen GP, 1x 1TB 2nd gen GP, 1x 2TB 3rd gen GP, 1x 7200rpm F1, 2x 5400rpm F2 EcoGreen

Here's the translation:

Did I miss something about platter density??

For 3.5" disks:

"Meanwhile Kim Yu also announced that Samsung will launch in the second half of a TB products."

For 2.5" disks:

"In this regard the first three weeks due to the development and production of 160 GB of disc products, Therefore than competing companies will have more advantages."
