LaCie (www.lacie.com) by selling it's "LaCie Ethernet Disk RAID" is
violating copyrights of hundreds of software developers by distributing Linux,
Busybox, Samba, etc... Without a copy of the GPL (or even a notice of the gpl.)

I also called their tech support line (503-844-4503) and they have told me the
source code was not available and that the OS is proprietary. They said someone
would get back to me about it over 2 weeks ago. When I called back, they told me the
source code is not available.

See product at:
http://www.lacie.com...t.htm?pid=10876

They claim in the product spec sheet that the OS it is running is "Linux
2.6." So there is no question to if they are violating the GPL or not.

You can see they are using busybox (which is licensed under the GPL.) by downloading the latest firmware for the
product at:
ftp://207.189.107.14...24-external.zip
link from the page:
http://www.lacie.com...er.htm?id=10101

(send me a PM if you would like to know how to extract the
pkg file. It is just a tarball with some extra info at the start of the file.)

LaCie apparently believes it is above the GPL.

hopefully no one would buy their over-priced storage solution anyways. it's a 4 disk NAS, you should be able to get much more than 1tb out of it, especially for the price.

Sign. First, turn of the zeal, it makes you look like an idiot (it really puts off people, you know).

Second. Consider that the Phone Monkey doesnt know jack.

Third. Look at their website. You might notice the downloads called "GPL source codes",like this one: http://www.lacie.com...er.htm?id=10099

(there are others for other products), so they dont hide that they use linux, and they provide sources.

oops. didnt notice that other post above. This source is also not from the identical product, but its also from a raid-using one. Its entirely possible that the GPL part of both is identical, which should be enough to comply GPL 2.0 (GPL 3.0 is a totally different can of viral shitworm)

I guess being against companies that profit off of the work of others against their will makes me an "idiot" in your eyes. And being against copyright violators makes me a zealot.

So you must consider pirating software for profit to be cool. It makes me proud that you consider me an idiot, as I don't mind "putting off people" that have zero moral fiber.

Consider that the whole company is selling software against the terms and conditions put on it by it's creators.

Nope The GPL parts are not identical. They are not complying with the GPL 2.0. They also must include a copy of the GPL with any product they distribute that is license under the GPL.

They FAIL both the source code and including a copy of the license requirements of the GPL.
